The 5 Year Review
I put these pants on this morning, and realized I was doing a disservice to others for not taking 5 minutes to review them. After FIVE YEARS, they have survived multiple closet culls and continue to be my default outside housework pants, even after they had to be retired from professional work 2.5 years after I bought them (realistically I could patch one of the double knees to bring them back to public use, but I also got spray foam insulation on them so...)
I live in an area where it can be effin HOT and also effin COLD - and these pants give me the protection and the pockets I need while still being adaptable.
I have the waist/hip ratio of a cartoon character, but I never had to alter these pants because of the incredible waistband (I alter all my other pants, including my other dovetails to avoid serious gapping). Do they look a little like utility maternity sweatpants when you buy them new? Yes. Do they transform into professional, unbelievably comfortable and unrestrictive pants once you pair them with a work boots, a tee shirt, and a few wash cycles? Also yes.
I am blown away how long the modal has held up over the years, for a fabric that is so much cooler to work in than canvas, and with a higher stretch content than most workpant stretch blends.
I have broken one zip pocket, some topstitching has chafed off, and my right knee double front has a hole (all my work pants fail here first). These are all what I would consider minor fixes for a pant that I have put…
