To get it right, we worked closely—for years—with the radass women of DX Ranch, a fourth-generation Oceti Sakowin ranch on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. Long and lean, DX Bootcut looks like a tall drink of water. It's also a workhorse. This canvas pant also ranges beyond the ranch, with a double "shot pocket" that fits essential vet med tools, as well as folding knives and anything else that needs to sit snug ’n shallow. This is our ONLY pant without thigh reinforcements (for optimal horseback work). But fear no fabric fail. These bad britches are reinforced with CORDURA® threads, baby!

We brought in the big guns of Freedom Denim in China, to make this CORDURA® canvas. These guys are seriously sustainable, in ways that make our brains explode.

You got 'em dirty, now get 'em clean.

  • Turn inside out.
  • Wash cold.
  • Hang dry.
  • If you must tumble, tumble low to damp dry.


We get it's tempting to wash those dirty pants in hot water and tumble dry the hell out of them. But like any high-quality tool, this one will last longer with TLC. Heat messes with our special stretch sauces and secret weatherizing potions. And it can shrink, warp, and otherwise damage the fine fabrics that make Dovetail Workwear sturdy, comfortable, and tough on the job. So for a long life, wash cold, and hang dry or tumble low. They’re really great, I just need to size down!

I’m 5’11.75” and slim but 11 months postpartum with my fourth baby so have a soft belly still. I got a size 8 with 36 inseam (my measured inseam is 35.5”), and the waistband was a little loose, the legs baggier than I’d prefer, and the hems a little too long for me to realistically wear around the farm in the muddy/snowy winter. That actually helped me feel a bit better about my body that the pants were too big LOL, but I do need them ASAP. I’m going to try a size 6 with 34 inseam - I think they’ll be perfect then! I’m concerned the knees won’t be as sturdy as the double panels on my other Dovetail pants (we are building a tiny house and I’m an herb farmer), but I’m getting these as my “look nice in town but still have plenty of pockets… and if I get to ride a horse I’ll have some great pants for that :)” pants. They are beautifully made, like all Dovetail items.

Excellent material

I couldn't stop talking about these pants the first two times I wore them. The material is thin, gives a little for comfort, but feels totally secure. They're Dovetail so of course there are tons of excellent pockets.

They look great casually as well as in my office (field engineer)

Well, I have hardly taken them off. The only things I would like to see different to make them even better for me would be two things... Slightly wider pockets on the sides of both legs, and about another inch of rise, as I at times feel while squatting that there is a bit too much exposure and "breeze" on the rear.

Wear over time is the real test, so I look forward to seeing how they hold up.

I rarely buy pants and have been wearing Men's cargo fishing pants for years as I find the pockets indispensable and I am not much for purses... so my answers on sizing are not well informed, but I had to choose one to get out of this questionnaire

Love them, but fit is a little snug

I love almost everything about these. I ordered a size 14 like I have in another pair, but they were a lil more snug. And maybe I didn’t completely read everything in the description about them either. In any case, all the pants that I have ordered in the past and present are my favorites for work! Thank you
