Karen Ramos—outdoor activist
"I am my ancestors' wildest dreams."
Adventurer, activist, Oaxaqueña, Californian. Hiker, leader, student, storyteller. Karen Ramos is a force of nature and a force for nature—on a mission to make it accessible to all. At the tender age of 23, Karen began her own nonprofit: Get Out, Stay Out aka Vamos Afuera connects indigenous-migrant children with the outdoors through hikes, camping trips, and multi-day backpacking adventures.
Karen speaks her truth on a variety of social and environmental justice issues, from equity in the outdoors to #fakevanlife, to the realities and unrealities of being "a person of color with a pinky toe in the outdoor industry." She stands for the paradox that has been her own experience in the outdoors, being a both badass and also a woman of color. To support Karen's mission, connect with her @naturechola and @getout.stayout.
Karen lives and laughs in the Freshley Overall in Grey Stretch Canvas.
