Who builds mechanic’s work shirts for women that fit like a dream? No one– except us. Inspired by our mechanic buddy Faye Hadley, who tailored her own damn shirts, we got into the garage and built you a classic mechanic’s work shirt. But we Dovetailed the details. Stretchy cotton moves with you. A modernized fit sits at the hip. A short sleeve hits the spot between cap sleeve and tee, so you can flex those guns in a crisp, sharp cut. Grease is the new makeup, dirt is the new clean.

You love your work and we love you. So we made you snaps that look like metal, but won’t scratch like metal.
Fist bumps for our friends at Foison Textiles in China, who made this fabric. This facility is powered entirely by solar. An Oeko-Tex and WRAP certified facility, Foison is truly being the change we want to see in the garment world.

Go light, move easy.

  • Lightweight cotton poplin
  • Fabric content: 98% cotton/ 2% spandex

Delicious stretch cotton means a comfy, breathable fabric that moves with all of your moves.

Other color options:

You got 'em dirty, now get 'em clean.

  • Turn inside out.
  • Wash cold.
  • Hang dry. If you must tumble, tumble low to damp dry.

We get it's tempting to wash that dirty shirt in hot water and tumble dry the hell out of it. But like any high-quality tool, this one will last longer with TLC. Heat messes with our special stretch sauces and secret weatherizing potions. And it can shrink, warp, and otherwise damage the fine fabrics that make Dovetail Workwear sturdy, comfortable, and tough on the job. So for a long life, wash cold, and hang dry or tumble low. The planet will thank you too.

Second time was the charm

I really liked this, but my normal size didn't have a lot of room. I exchanged for a large and it will still fit even if I accidentally leave it in the dryer.

I want to wear this shirt every day

This is my new favorite shirt. I should have ordered five. Since it snaps, it's super easy to get out of. I did try a size smaller than usual, and it is a bit snug, so I'll probably size up with my next purchase. I wish they'd bring back the navy or even a black option. It's super soft and has a good amount of stretch.

Mechanics Work Shirt Indigo Stripe

I am not a mechanic but I do love the indigo stripe work shirt for the summer here. I am very impressed with the snap buttons and wish every shirt would have snaps ! So easy and convenient. Looks great. Light weight and sturdy and yes 98% cotton. Thank you Dovetail.
