Demi Knight Clark is a powerhouse. As the Chief Spark Igniter of the nonprofit She Built This City, Demi fires up a new generation of women and girls in the quest to close the 8% gender equity gap in trades and construction.After years in boardrooms, Demi grabbed her toolbox, put on her new power suit (Dovetail Workwear Mavens + blazer), and built her nonprofit in record time.
She Built This City blazes a trail for women ages 9–17 in Charlotte, NC, and beyond. SBTC honors both the hammer and drill heritage of the trades but also “future proofs” the trades with STEM education and new technologies. Workshops and classes at SBTC include: drone technology, virtual shop class with Generation T (sponsored by Lowe’s), and 3-D printing.

When she’s not renovating her airstream workshop, making portable air-conditioners and dog bowl stations with her girl builders, hosting a job fair, or plugging powerful people into her cause, Demi runs triathlons and climbs mountains. And when she kicks back, it’s with an old-school Manhattan (with a cherry and an orange slice, please).
