New Apparel Brand Moxie & Moss Workwear Takes A Fresh Look at What Women Need
Portland Oregon September 2017
Moxie & Moss Workwear (MMW) is a new Portland-based startup making clothing truly addressing the functional and fit requirements of working women. The company was created when two landscapers, frustrated with the lack of viable options in the women’s workwear space, teamed up with one of their clients--an apparel industry veteran. The three female founders are proud to be part of a growing movement recognizing the physical demands and unique needs of hard-working, entrepreneurial women. Their local and global experience in apparel, design and physical work has fueled the support of the Portland community, as well as connecting the brand with high-end, sustainable suppliers typically inaccessible to startups.
MMW developed its first product, a denim work pant called the Maven, in partnership with over 100 women field testers from a multitude of trades, labor, and maker communities across the country. The work pant performs in the toughest of environments, yet translates throughout every part of a woman’s day due to its refined fit, functionality and durability. Made from premium stretch denim sourced from Cone Mills in North Carolina, three versions of the Maven are currently on offer, with sizes from 00-18 and multiple inseams.
Over the past three months, MMW completed a successful direct to consumer pre-sale of the Maven. The company officially launched its new on-line store in September and will begin rolling out a full line including more pant styles and fabrics, outerwear, tops, and accessories. These products can currently be found at moxieandmoss.comand in select regional and national retailers over the coming year.
MMW’s products, brand, and philosophy are the embodiment of Oregon’s entrepreneurial culture. Moxie & Moss Workwear seeks to support and inspire women who are deepening the Pacific Northwest’s tradition of trade, craft, and creativity. The business is committed to ethical practices and scaling a local company for global reach. MMW is also a member and supporter of Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. with a percentage of its sales going to The Maven Scholarship Fund.
